A RARE CONSTABULARY OR MARSHALL'S HANGER MARKED TO MANSION HOUSE, LONDON, serial no. 23,
first quarter of the 19th century, with slightly curved broad fullered 8in. spearpoint blade (some light staining), false edged for the last 8in. boat-shaped brass straight cross-guard with single ball quillion and integral wire 'P' shaped knucklebow, brass backstrap engraved 'MARSHALL'S OFFICE, MANSION HOUSE, LONDON No.23' with integral brass capped pommel, ribbed horn grip and complete with its black leather scabbard with brass mounts (seam split)

Other Notes: The Marshalls were given powers in 1595 by Elizabeth I to keep order in the City and continued their policing duties until the 1829 and 1839 Police Acts
