A BRITISH HEAVY CAVALRY OFFICER'S 1796 PATTERN DRESS SWORD WITH BLUE AND GILT BLADE SIGNED SOLINGEN,
circa 1800, with narrow, straight, lozenge profile 31in. blade, the first half with gilt edges bordering a blue ground with gilt trophies and floral devices, the forte signed 'SOLINGEN', gilt brass boat-shaped guard with shell carved finial, straight cross-guard with 'D' shaped knuckle-bow, wire-bound bulbous grip (possibly renewed) and lemon pommel with ball finial, complete with its gilt brass mounted black leather scabbard (distressed, seam split), the throat marked in an oval 'R. JOHNSTON, LATE BLAND & FORSTER, SWORD CUTLER & BELT MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY, 68 ST JAMES'S ST LONDON', and a bullion and material sword knot
