AN INTERESTING .455 WEBLEY W.G. ARMY REVOLVER RETAILED BY WILLIAM EVANS, serial no. 9779,
for 1897, with re-blued 6in. barrel signed 'W. EVANS 63 PALL MALL LONDON SW' (rubbed), nickel fore-sight blade, the top-strap engraved 'WOUNDED 10th AUG'ST 1918' over 'MT. KEMMEL', break-open frame with automatic ejecting fluted cylinder, single-sided cylinder retainer, brushed bright hammer and trigger, flared chequered walnut grips (historic repair to both toes), the back-strap marked 'W.E. BRINKLEY', the heel 'CH' and 'EB', the whole refinished and with a period full flap leather service holster
Provenance: The engraving to the back strap would indicate that the revolver at some point owned by a W.E. Brinkley, reserach would suggest this to be Walter Everard Brinkley
Walter Everard Brinkley was born on the 18th September 1898 at Rawalpindi in Bengal. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on the 29th August 1917 in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He resigned his commission on the 1st April 1920 and became a branch manager for a petroleum company. He was recalled as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on the 28th February 1940. He was later given the honorary rank of Major. He resided at Old Mill House, Hundleby in Lincolnshire and died there in April 1967
