dated for 1852, with tapering round iron 10 3/4in. barrel, octagonal form breech, the left upper flat stamped with the date and serial number and also '2D.R.4E.7.', plain bevel-edged lock of flint form with radiused tail and stamped below the snail with a crown over 'R', 'MD-1848' and '1852-305', large distinctive ring-hammer, beech half-stock with full-length iron back-strap, brass butt-cap and trigger guard bow and iron nose-cap with no provision for ramrod, ironwork in the white as supplied
