A .656 PERCUSSION ENFIELD PATTERN 1867 BENGAL NATIVE CAVALRY CARBINE, serial no. 23,
with 20in. Enfield proofed smoothbore barrel, barleycorn front-sight and fixed vee rear-sight, swivel rammer hinged at muzzle, the lock stamped with the Crown V.R. cypher on the tail and '1863.67 / ENFIELD', to the centre, together with both the W.D. small crown arrow ownership stamp and the East India Governments 'I' small arrow acceptance mark, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock, the buttplate of a pattern unique to this carbine covering just the heel and toe the centre section being chequered, the right side of the butt stamped with an Enfield first class inspection roundel, fitted side rib and ring on the counter lock side

Provenance: This pattern of carbine was specially designed at Enfield and officially approved in February 1867 for issue to Bengal Native Cavalry in the army of the East India Government, just 8000 were made at the Enfield factory
