A LATE 14-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN SIGNED SMITH, LONDON, FOR RESTORATION, no visible serial number,
circa 1825, with round 32in. barrel mostly cleaned of finish, engraved needle at breech signed 'LONDON' (faint), white metal fore-sight and gold line at breech, fully engraved top-tang, flat bevel edged border and scroll engraved lock with stepped tail and signed in script below the rainproof pan 'SMITH', roller frizzen (bridle cracked, mainspring broken or absent, top-jaw and majority of screw absent), walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (some heavy marks, cracked forwards of side-nail), raised cheek-piece, iron furniture except white metal reinforcing plate to left side of breech and engraved nose-cap, square-backed iron trigger guard and raised and scrolled lower tang, period horn-tipped ramrod

Provenance: Almost certainly the work of C. Smith, London, Smith was well known for producing high quality flintlock arms well into the percussion period
