A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1525,
circa 1855, 28 3/4in. nitro reproved damascus barrels, rib engraved '1' and 'THOMAS BOSS. 75 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. choke in both, converted from muzzle loading by Edward Paton, Jones patent rotary-underlever, rebounding sidelocks with carved c-scroll hammers, best border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening and finish, the action flat signed Edward Paton, bowed triggerguard engraved with a hound, 14 1/2in. well-figured stock including wooden buttplate, weight 7lb. 2oz.

Other Notes: The serial number of the gun would indicate an original date of manufacture circa 1855/6 and the conversion to breech loading is likely to have occurred circa 1865. Edward Paton (Perth, Scotland) was renowned as being a specialist in the field and records show it would cost £15 per gun to be converted.
