A SCARCE .44 (RIMFIRE) SINGLE-SHOT UNDER-LEVER RIFLE, MODEL WHITNEY-HOWARD 'THE THUNDERBOLT', serial no. 32,
circa 1866, with round, tapering 23 1/2in. barrel, engraved 'THE THUNDERBOLT' , '32' and 'CHARLES POMEROY ? LONDON' (middle address obscured, the whole faint and rubbed), dove-tailed fore-sight, ladder rear-sight graduated to 200 yards (slider missing), rounded boxlock action, straight-hand chequered walnut butt with shotgun style heel-plate (pitted), trigger-guard forming the cocking-lever, iron surfaces lightly cleaned in places and discoloured, overall length 41 3/4in., weight approximately 5 1/2lbs.
