for 1857, with blued octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'ADDRESS SAML COLT, HARTFORD CT', the sides of breech engraved with American scroll and bordered in gold wire, reblued six-shot cylinder scrubbed of scene (some bruising) and inlet with gold wire bands and open scrolls, open blued iron frame marked 'COLT'S PATENT' and scroll engraved with gold wire borders, silver-plated grip-straps and trigger-guard (plating renewed), the backstrap engraved in script 'PRESENTED TO CAPT. HENRY MARKELL BY CO. A 44TH INF, JUNE 1ST 1864' (inscription possibly correct), smooth flared walnut grip and blued under-barrel rammer, 13 3/4in. overall, complete with its reproduction walnut case, lined and compartmented in green baize, reproduction instruction label inside lid, the tray with original iron mould, reproduction flask and nipple-key
