A GOOD PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK TRAVELLING-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
French, circa 1750, with swamped two-stage 6 1/4in. barrels of Spanish form, moulded band at the intersection, the breech flats decorated with punched engraving (traces of gilt infill), borderline engraved solid top-tangs, slightly curved strongly radiused brushed bright locks with moulded borders and signed below the pans 'BERTRAND RECOUDER A ORILIAC', bridle-less frizzens with broad springs, walnut full-stocks with carved borders around the furniture and relief-carved floral aprons, borderline engraved bulbous iron butt-caps with long side-spurs, further bordered by wire inlays, pillar fronted guards and probable original wood ramrods, each pistol 11 1/2in. overall
