A .650 FLINTLOCK SERVICE-PISTOL OF LARGE POST-OFFICE PATTERN, registration no. 88G,
circa 1823, with 8 7/8in. iron barrel, flat sighting plane signed 'DUBLIN', solid top-tangs, flat, bevel-edged step-tailed lock quite crudely signed 'W & J RIGBY' semi rain-proof pan, roller frizzen-spring, walnut full-stocks with flat fish-tail butts of Irish form, brass furniture and iron stirrup ramrod, the fore-end with gummed label stating 'Dug up from cellar of M & L Bank in Wexford around 1922 and donated by Mr O'Neill of M & L', overall length 15in. weight approximately 2 1/2lbs.

Other Notes: Described as 'Large Post Office Pattern' by Mssrs. Rigby within their own literature, an identical pistol appears on pg. 29 of D.H.L. Back's book 'Great Irish Gunmakers, Messrs. Rigby 1760-1869', first edition.
