A .650 FLINTLOCK MUSKET, UNSIGNED, MODEL 'LIVERY MUSKET', no visible serial number,
circa 1820 and probably privately purchased for a House Militia, resembling an undersize 'India' Pattern Brown Bess, with iron 38in. smoothbore barrel, small block fore-sight, no provision for rear-sight, commercial London proofs at breech, the solid top-tang with shallow sighting groove, radiused slightly curved lock with a pointed tail and signed 'RICHARDS' below the pan, swan necked cock, walnut full-stock finishing 3 5/8in. from the muzzle, brass oval-shaped escutcheon at wrist engraved with a monogram, possible 'J.L', brass heel-plate with multi-stepped top-spur, brass trigger-guard, sideplate of loose Baker style secured by three dome-headed screws, brass ramrod pipes, the fore-end swelling at throat, stirrup swivels and button headed iron ramrod, fitted with a reproduction buff leather sling, 53in. overall, weight approximately 6 7/8lbs.
