for 1897, with 24 1/2in. octagonal barrel signed on the top-flat by the maker, dove-tailed blade fore-sight (narrowed), 'African' type folding rear-sight with ladder and six additional leaves, slab-sided receiver with loading gate and sliding dust-cover (sticking), top-tang marked 'MODEL 1873' (peep-sight blanking screws removed and absent), walnut butt-stock with crescent heel-plate and sliding trap-door, single set trigger, walnut fore-end and full-length magazine-tube, traces only of finish, sling swivels removed
