for 1856, with octagonal 3in. barrel signed on two lines 'ADDRESS SAM COLT, NEW YORK CITY' and bracketed at each end, bead fore-sight, no provision for rammer, open iron frame, plain five-shot cylinder roll engraved with the 'stagecoach hold-up' scene, brass grip-straps and trigger guard (slight traces of silver plating), smooth walnut grips, the front face of front-strap amateurly initialled 'J.M.C.', no finish to ironwork
