A CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION SELF-COCKING REVOLVER, MODEL 'TRANTER'S DOUBLE-TRIGGER', serial no. 3897T,
circa 1856-57 with blued octagonal 6in. barrel, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to the rear of the borderline and scroll engraved top-strap, engraved band at muzzle and scroll engraving at throat, blued '1856' type borderline and scroll engraved frame with inverted 'Y' shaped safe, borderline engraved plain five-shot cylinder with carved 'rope' frontal band, trigger blade marked 'TRANTER'S PATENT' in an oval, spurless hammer, semi saw-handled chequered walnut grip, iron pommel and detachable second pattern Tranter's patent rammer, the whole retaining much original finish and complete with a dark walnut storage case, (lid cracked and repaired) lined and compartmented in green baize and containing a matching number mould (handle deliberately modified) a bag-shaped flask, oil bottle, cleaning rod, tins for lubricating compound and bullets and an Eley cap tin, all period and original
