A CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN SIGNED 'MANTON', serial no. 12248,
purporting to date between 1850-54, with re-browned 30in. barrels, the top-rib unsigned, the underside at breech later marked 'J.M.' and the serial number, Birmingham proofs, engraved rib-end to breech, the blocks with nickel plugs, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks and hammers, the former signed 'MANTON' on the bar (possibly spurious), figured chequered walnut half-stock, iron furniture, long trigger-guard finial and brass tipped wood ramrod, complete in a period brass cornered John Manton & Son trade-labelled mahogany case, compartmented and lined in green baize and with detachable wad-box, lidded compartment for matching shot and powder flasks (included), a three-piece cleaning rod, cap tin, nipple-key and sundry cleaning items

Other Notes: This shotgun is possibly one of the many Birmingham guns John Manton bought in to sell during the 1860s
