Provenance: The vendor has kindly shared the following recollections about his experiences with the rifle:

"Having tried most other calibres, I believe that the 7x57 (or 275 Rigby if you prefer) is an ideal choice for stalking in the UK. It is flat shooting, easy on the shoulder yet packs quite a punch in a variety of bullet weights. I have had many memorable outings with mine but the following come particularly to mind.

On 8.9.98 I went out on the Garabal Estate near the head of Loch Fyne. The stalker was Winston Churchill and we were joined by my friend Edward Chadfield, a well known sportsman and former proprietor of the Yeaveley Shooting Ground in Derbyshire. The weather was awful even by West Coast standards! We tried to approach a group of stags which involved a long stalk through flooded peat hags When we eventually got to a vantage point the group had moved on, leaving a single switch which I managed to shoot. Despite the rain and mud, it was very satisfying to know that this particular beast was off the hill and would not be causing serious injury to other stags with its long dangerous spikes in the next rut.

In complete contrast was an outing in Glen Artney on 7.9.02. On a beautiful sunny morning I shot a large wild goat with massive horns. I never realised that such specimens were roaming free in UK. It looked more like something out of Africa!

I have had great fun with my 7x57 and regret parting with it but I hope that its new owner will derive as much pleasure from it as I did."
