AN EXTREMELY RARE 15-BORE FLINTLOCK BREECH-LOADING RIFLE SIGNED 'MANTON', no visible serial number,
circa 1800, possibly manufactured to a design by James Wilkes, with re-finished octagonal 28 1/2in. barrel, maker's mark at breech of 'RW' (Richard Wilson), brass fore-sight, blued replacement rear-sight, the left hand side of breech fitted with an iron screw-lever which unscrews to expose the breech aperture and is supported by a nickel-silver bridle, hooked tang, flat, slightly curved border engraved lock signed 'MANTON' (for John Manton, London), rain-proof pan, platinum vent, sliding safe behind the engraved hammer, large roller to the frizzen spring, walnut full-stock chequered at the wrist, brass furniture, acorn finial, brass nose-cap, three iron barrel-keys and replacement iron ramrod.
