A SCARCE .40-60-200 (WIN) COLT 'LIGHTNING' PUMP-ACTION REPEATING LARGE-FRAME CARBINE, serial no. 1056,
for 1887, with 22in. round barrel marked with the Colt address and patent dates to February 22 1887, replacement fore-sight, elevating ladder raer-sight, slab-sided receiver with sliding bolt and central hammer (distressed, missing top-cover and two action screws), saddle-ring mounted to left hand side, walnut straight hand butt-stock (bruised and scratched), iron carbine-type heel-plate, chequered wood pump-handle and full-length magazine, the whole mostly stripped of finish, complete with a factory letter

Provenance: The Colt factory letter accompanying the lot states that this rifle was shipped to their London agency in December 1887 for attention of a Mr Johannes Schroeder
