A 54-BORE TRANTER 4TH MODEL SINGLE-TRIGGER PERCUSSION REVOLVER, RETAILED BY JOHN HAYTON CIRCA 1858, serial no. 14892T,
with 5 3/4in. Birmingham proofed octagonal barrel with dovetailed bead front-sight and decorated muzzle, top strap engraved 'JOHN HAYTON, GRAHAMSTOWN', foliate engraved frame, the right-side engraved 'No 14,892T', pivoting hook safety and S-shaped cylinder arbour retaining spring, the left-side of the frame stamped in small letters 'TRANTERS PATENT' and fitted with Tranter's patent 3rd type loading lever, five shot cylinder with the usual rope band decoration to the front edge, one piece chequered walnut grips with engraved and dished oval butt-cap, worn and stained overall, action slightly at fault
