A GOOD PAIR OF BRASS-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS PISTOLS WITH SPRING BAYONETS BY J. & W. RICHARDS, CIRCA 1808, no visible serial numbers,
6 1/2in. slightly swamped brass barrels and turned cannon shaped muzzles fitted with under mounted triangular bladed spring bayonets, operated by pulling back on the sliding trigger-guard, side mounted horn tipped wooden ramrods, boxlock actions both sides decorated with trophies of arms the right-side also marked 'LONDON' and the left-side with the makers name 'J & W RICHARDS', centre cock with sliding bar safety, fitted with walnut slab-sided grips

Provenance: Pistols of this type were apparently favoured by Naval officers, the makers were Joseph and William Richards who operated from 16 Staining Lane and 62 Strand, London
