Product Details

A RARE .56 (25-BORE) PATTERN 1801/16 EAST INDIA COMPANY ARSENAL SHORTENED FLINTLOCK PISTOL, CIRCA 1808, no visible serial number,
9in. barrel stamped with London proofs and E.I.C. inspection stamps at the breech, border engraved flat style lock dated 1808 on the tail and the Rampant Lion cypher of the E.I.C. to the centre together with a small Crown over 2 inspectors mark, fitted with a ring-neck cock, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock, including short lobed skull crusher butt engraved 'M.31- (middle deck), complete with belt hook and iron rammer

Provenance: This interesting pistol was originally made as a Long Sea Service pistol with a 12in. barrel for the East India Company, who as well as an Army also had a Navy known as the Bombay Marine, operating in Asian waters. During periods of arms shortages during the Napoleonic Wars, the Board of Ordnance requisitioned large quantities E.I.C. arms, this pistol was one. After the defeat of Napoleon in 1815 it was thought that a pistol with a 9in. barrel was more manageable and many sea service pistols were officially modified
