A BRASS-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS BY JAMES BARBAR, CIRCA 1750, no visible serial number,
with 14in. ring turned cannon mouthed brass barrel, struck at the breech with London proof marks and engraved 'LONDON', to the top, borderline engraved lock of rounded form and inscribed with the makers name 'BARBAR' to centre, bun-nut retained swan-neck cock, shallow pan without frizzen bridle, a typical feature of early manufacture, brass mounted full walnut stock with handrail wrist, complete with horn tipped ramrod (likely original)

Provenance: The maker was James Barbar son of Lewis Barbar and established at Portugal St. London circa 1726-67, and at Dover St. 1739-67, he was appointed Gentleman Armourer to George II and Furbisher at Hampton Court circa 1741 positions he held until 1767 when he retired
