circa 1882, 30in. sleeved nitro barrels, rib engraved with Woodward Automatic model designation, address and Whitworth steel reference (new), 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp cyl and 1/4 choke, Woodward 1881 patent snap-action with arcaded fences, the top strap gold-inlaid '1', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, protruding tumbler pivots with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, the lockplates engraved with 'COCKED' details, best fine acanthus scroll engraving, the face of the action engraved 'Woodward's Patent', 'THE AUTOMATIC 364', and the underside carved in relief 'THE AUTOMATIC. WOODWARD'S PATENT', brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 13 7/8in. well-figured stock (minor grain split at hand) including buttplate, weight 6lb. 13oz.
