circa 1860, with 30in. damascus barrels (darkly browned), broad machine engraved matted top-rib signed 'JOHN HALL MAKER TO HER MAJESTY'S HON'BLE BOARD OF ORDNANCE, PALL MALL LONDON', dove-tailed fore-sight, rear-sight with four flush folding leaves, each with platinum centre-line and a single standing notch, starbursts engraved around the pin apertures, shallow percussion fences with fully engraved top-tang, rounded border and scroll engraved action body fitted with a Jones-type swing under-lever pierced at the tip, border and scroll engraved back-action locks with sliding safes behind the dolphin headed hammers, the locks signed along the top edge 'J. HALL', chequered walnut half pistol-grip butt-stock (cracked and repaired at wrist on left side), carved and gadrooned pommel, large border engraved iron patchbox let into the right side of butt engraved 'J.B. HOLROYDE, HALIFAX 1867' over 'CHARGE 3 1/2 DRAMS', borderline and scroll engraved heel-plate, chequered walnut splinter fore-end and fitted with eyelets for sling, strong traces of colour and finish remaining
