A .300 (ROOK) SIDELEVER HAMMER ROOK & RABBIT RIFLE, serial no. 74,
circa 1900, 27in. octagonal barrel with matted sight flat, dove-tailed bead fore-sight, standing notch rear sight with two folding leaf sights marked for 50, 100 and 150 yards and with white metal inlaid sight lines, the adjacent flats engraved 'MORTIMER & SON. EDINBURGH.' and 'CAL. 300.', non-selective ejector, rebounding central hammer, plain action retaining much colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock including steel buttplate, Hackett-type snap-on splinter fore-end with horn finial, weight 5lb. 1oz.
