A .730 PERCUSSION CARBINE FOR THE EAST INDIA COMPANY, UNSIGNED, MODEL 'PAT 1842 SAPPERS CARBINE, 2ND MODEL', no visible serial number,
manufactured circa 1844, with round 30 1/4in. barrel, block fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the breech marked with the letter 'G' (E.I.C. date code for 1843/44), solid top-tang with rounded tip, bar action borderline engraved lock marked centrally with the rampant lion trademark, walnut full-stock (patched repair behind rear barrel key), brass furniture and iron ramrod with squared shank behind the flared tip

Provenance: The only confirmed order for this carbine was for 1600 and was mainly distributed to Bengal and Bombay regiments, with a small number going to Madras units. It is possible that more were ordered but no proof has been found.
