A SCARCE, MATCHED PAIR OF 12-BORE 'IMPERIAL EJECTOR' SIDELOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 10665 / 10801,
28 3/4in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (in 2001, since slightly shortened), the tubes engraved 'JAMES LANG. 7 BURY STREET. ST. JAMES'S. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, treble-grip actions with E.C. Hodges patent markings to the flats, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, the lockplates gold-inlaid 'JAMES LANG & CO.', the undersides gold-inlaid 'Imperial Ejector', retaining some renewed colour-hardening and finish, the triggerguard tangs gold-inlaid with the serial numbers, 15in. well-figured replacement stocks with matching fore-ends, weight 6lb. 12oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 14oz. (No.2), in a brass-cornered oak and leather case
Provenance: The makers records list both guns as having been made as '12-bore top snap hammerless ejector guns with 30in. barrels, gun No. 10665 being completed on the 24th January 1894 and sold to a Hector Christie on the 2nd August 1894, (with a later note saying 'In Sothebys 11/91 New barrels by "Masters"). Gun No. 10801 was completed on the 18th April 1895 for 'Gibbs'.
The guns are likely to have been refurbished by Atkin Grant and Lang, with new barrels, stocks and fore-ends fitted circa 2001.
