24 1/2in. nitro reproved octagonal barrel lined to .22 Hornet, partially file cut top flat with block-mounted open sights and folding leaf sights, block-mounted bead fore-sight, the breech end mounted with a Geco 4x telescopic sight on a quickly-detachable rail mount (later), the barrel engraved ' HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD RIFLE TRIALS". LONDON.', and '.295 SEMI SMOOTH BORE', the breech end and extractor housing carved in high relief with fine foliate scroll designs on a matted background, outsized action with teardrop fences, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, removable striker disc, non-selective ejector, the action and furniture finely carved in high relief with fine scrolling foliate and acanthus motifs interspersed with mythical beasts of serpentine form, the underside and the standing breech with depictions of the Green Man, the triggerguard carved with a dragon, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 3/4in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, ivory pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, the fore-end with an ivory finial, weight 7lb. 4oz. (unscoped) and 8lb. 5oz. (with scope)
