A .52 RIMFIRE SINGLE-SHOT CARBINE, MODEL '1862 NAVY CARBINE', serial no. 9749,
circa 1864, with 24in. barrel sliding forwards on opening (missing original leather sleeve), muzzle cap with fore-sight forming lug for bayonet, tangent rear-sight, recessed breech, slab-sided receiver marked 'SHARP'S PATENT 1859' and the Navy inspectors initials 'P' over 'HKH' on the left and 'SHARPS & HANKINS PHILADA' on the right hand side, central hammer with sliding safety alongside on the left, no provision for saddle-ring, under-lever forming the trigger-guard and walnut butt-stock with brass heel-plate, minimal traces of finish.
