A RARE 80-BORE PERCUSSION SIDE-HAMMER MUFF-PISTOL WITH BUTT MAGAZINE, no visible serial number,
circa 1824, with etched damascus octagonal 2in. barrel, the top-flat with small fore-sight and signed 'DUBLIN', side-mounted nipple-boss with vented platinum plug and spring cap retainer, border and scroll engraved squared boxlock action with en-suite side-hammer, the left side of action signed in a panel 'W & J RIGBY', smooth walnut butt of Irish form, the back-strap hinging upwards to reveal apertures for caps and balls, guarded trigger and captive iron ramrod with concealed worm end

Provenance: A cased pair of identical pistols dated to 1824 and described as 'Rigby's Magazine Pistols' can be found on page 39 of D.H.L. Backs publication 'Great Irish Gunmakers - Messrs. Rigby 1760-1869'
