probably Swiss or German circa 1770 with later conversion, heavy octagonal multi-groove rifled 34 3/4in. barrel with bayonet lug under muzzle, shallow dove-tailed brass fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with carved mount and two additional folding leaves, the breech stamped with a double-headed key mark and the small number '81' together with a larger engraved number '93', plain bevel-edged lock of flint form with radiused pointed tail, carved plain hammer, re-stocked with a walnut full-stock (cracked alongside top-tang), raised cheek-piece, brass furniture, double-set triggers with spurred elongated guard and replacement brass mounted iron ramrod
