originally built as a flintlock circa 1805, with 30in. octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 30in. barrel (worn, loss to sharp edges), the top-flat at breech signed in gilt 'I. FENTON, LONDON', further gilt inlay to breech-block, platinum vented plug with carved and scrolled percussion fence, flat engraved bevel-edged lock with stepped tail and retaining cut-out for pan and signed in script 'J. PURDEY', engraved slab-sided hammer, walnut half-stock with finely chequered wrist, shallow raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including square-backed trigger-guard bow and raised pistol grip lower tang, white metal wrist and barrel-key escutcheons, white metal nose-cap and replacement iron ramrod
