R. GROVES, WOOLWICH

A BRITISH 1821 ARTILLERY OFFICER'S SWORD,
circa World War One, with slightly curved 34in. polished and cleaned blade etched with scrolls, 'UBIQUE', a cannon and a 'GRV' device within an arabesque panel on the right hand side, the left similar but with winged lightning bolts and 'ARTILLERY', 'MADE IN ENGLAND' and serial number to back edge, inlet proof mark at forte, plated half-basket hilt with three narrow bars, wire-bound sharkskin grip, chequered back-strap with stepped and domed pommel and complete with its brown pigskin leather scabbard and leather sword knot.
