A BRITISH OFFICER'S 1796 PATTERN DRESS-SWORD WITH BLUE AND GILT BLADE,
circa 1800, with narrow straight tapering 32 1/2in. double edged blade (some dark staining), the first half of blade engraved with gilded scolls and trophies on a blued ground (faded, traces only) around a narrow central panel to both sides inscribed 'FOR MY COUNTRY & KING', the armorial of King George III to both sides near hilt, gilded double kidney-bean shaped guard carved around the blade aperture, straight quillion with carved tip, 'D' shaped knuckle-bow with carved terminus where it meets the gilded urn pommel, silver wire-bound grip and complete with its leather scabbard (poorly and extensively repaired with black cloth tape) and gilded mounts, the throat signed within an oval margin 'No. 37 CHARING CROSS NEAR THE ADMIRALTY' around 'TATHAM TO HIS MAJESTY'
