Product Details

THE SOLID SILVER GRAND CUP FROM THE ALL ENGLAND PIGEON SHOOT OF 1903,
Birmingham hallmarks for 1901, twin handled classical design and standing 14in high, the main bowl engraved with borders, foliage and scrolls around a central panel engraved 'ALL ENGLAND PIGEON SHOOT, LEAMINGTON, MARCH 1903. THIS CUP WITH £60 WAS WON BY BARON ROSE WITH ELEVEN CLEAN KILLS', plain stem with swollen beaded central mount and circular engraved foot

Other Notes: Baron Rose (Baron was his christian name, not a title) was born in the Halesowen area in 1863. He went on to co-direct the family business 'The Rose Tube & Gun-Barrel Company ' with his older brother Benjamin. Information is unclear, but it would appear that the business was sold in 1906 to pay an expensive court case brought about by a complaint of pollution. The new owners continued with the business under the same trading name until its final closure in the 1920s.
