A SCARCE .58 RIMFIRE BREECH-LOADING SERVICE MUSKET, MODEL ' MILLER 1861 CONVERSION', serial no. 11,
dated for 1863, with brushed bright 30in. barrel, block fore-sight acting as bayonet lug, standing notch rear-sight with two additional folding leaves, later converted flip-up breech-block with automatic extraction and signed 'W.H & G.W. MILLER PATENT MAY 23RD 1865' over 'MERIDEN ARMS CO, MERIDEN CONN.', bevel edged bar-action lock engraved with an American Eagle over 'US' and signed 'PARKERS, SNOW & CO, MERIDEN CONN.' together with the rare date '1863', external hammer, walnut full-stock (cracked and repaired at action), the wrist grooved for ease of loading, the right hand side of butt stamped '33', the iron heel-plate marked 'US' on the top-spur, iron trigger-guard bow, two iron barrel-bands and nose-cap, complete with its iron cup-ended ramrod

Other Notes: One of a number of contract produced 1861 Pattern muskets by various manufacturers, only 5,502 arms were delivered by Parkers, Snow & Co. for the James Mulholland contract that bore the date '1863' (most are dated 1864). Conversions of these muskets with this date are scarcer still.
