A GOOD 40-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT TARGET-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1840, with re-blued 10 3/4in. octagonal rifled barrel off-set at the breech and muzzle, the central section with blind narrow flutes to the flats except the top and signed 'F.P. GASTINNE RENETTE A PARIS', scroll engraving to muzzle and breech, the top of breech marked '2', dove-tailed fore-sight bead, applied standing notch rear-sight to the shaped borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, carved and fenced nipple-boss, borderline and scroll engraved hump-backed lock signed around the hammer-base 'GASTINNE RENETTE A PARIS', engraved hammer with faceted nose, walnut half-stock with relief carving of scrolled vines in lieu of chequering, flared moulded iron butt-cap with central 'tea-cosy' pommel-button (traces of colour), engraved and blued spurred trigger-guard bow, plain trigger, further relief carving to the fore-end tip and no provision for ramrod,
