A .44 PERCUSSION SIX-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL '1860 ARMY FOUR-SCREW "O" SERIES', serial no. 16462,
for 1861, with 8in. round, sighted barrel signed 'ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', plain stepped cylinder (naval scene removed), iron frame marked 'COLT'S PATENT', notched for shoulder-stock with extended fourth bolt, brass trigger guard stamped '.44' and iron backstrap, all the serial numbers stamped with a letter 'O' either above or below them, the whole refinished except the back-strap

Other Notes: A certain amount of speculation has existed around the 'O' series guns. Originally thought to be guns bought by and subsequently rejected by the United States War Department, popular opinion by collectors now has these guns down as one of a batch of 1000 guns supplied with shoulder-stocks and issued to the 11th New York Cavalry
