A GOOD PAIR OF 38-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT OFFICER'S PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1845, with browned twist-iron octagonal 10in. barrels signed on the top-flats 'ROBERT WHEELER & SON', white metal dove-tailed fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights, colour hardened scroll engraved breech blocks with carved and fenced snails and vented platinum plugs, scroll engraved top-tangs, isolated borderline and scroll engraved dipped tail bar-action locks signed 'ROBERT WHEELER & SON, sliding safes behind the scroll engraved and moulded headed hammers, walnut half-stocks with flat-top chequered bag-shaped butts, oval escutcheons to the wrists, blued trigger-guard bows and tangs, set triggers and original ebony ramrods, much original finish remaining to both pistols (one pistol with ramrod thimble loose but present, the other with some damage to chequered portion of grip)
