circa 1840, with rifled 6in. octagonal barrel signed in script on the top-flat 'LONDON', bead fore-sight, white-metal band at breech, shaped paktong action-body with border and acanthus-leaf engraving, the top of breech signed 'VAN WART & SON & CO', fully fenced snail, engraved dolphin-headed iron side-hammer, chequered walnut bag-shaped butt, paktong butt-cap with central iron trapdoor, oval escutcheon to wrist, paktong under-barrel rib with captive iron stirrup ramrod and concealed folding trigger
