dated for 1864, with brushed bright 40in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, 'L' shaped rear-sight blade, inspector's stamps at breech, plain top-tang, bevel-edged bar-action lock engraved with an American Eagle to both the plate and the nipple boss, and signed 'US' and 'SPRINGFIELD', the date stamped at tail, inspector's stamps to the plain hammer, walnut full-stock with applied plaque to the left hand side of butt reading 'THIS RIFLE WAS PRESENTED TO NORMAN FRANK ERLAM ON 27 FEBRUARY 2001 IN RECOGNITION OF 22 YEARS SERVICE AS HONORARY SECRETARY.
