A GOOD 26-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1845, with octagonal 28in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'JOZEF LOCHNER W CZASLAWI' (sic), white-metal dove-tailed fore-sight within a scroll engraved arabesque panel extending down to the side-flats, standing notch rear-sight with additional folding leaf mounted on a carved and engraved foot, engraved borders and white metal line at breech, the breech-block with carved snail and engraved with panels of scrolls, the broad top-tang with engraved borders and scrollwork surrounding a relief carving of a running fox, applied squared socket behind top-tang for auxilliary peep-sight (absent), border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'LOCHNER', carved and engraved hammer with lobed base, chequered walnut half-stock with raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including heel-plate with fully engraved top-spur, engraved dummy lockplate on the left hand side, raised and scrolled lower tang, double set triggers with engraved bow, engraved white-metal rectangular barrel-key escutcheons and brass tipped iron ramrod, the whole with traces of faded original finish
