A SCARCE CASED .300 PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT ROOK & RABBIT RIFLE, serial no. F665,
circa 1865, with round tapering blued 24in. barrel, dove-tailed block at muzzle for adjustable tunnel fore-sight (included), standing notch rear-sight with three additional folding leaves with platinum centre-lines, the tp of barrel marked behind the rear-sight with 'WHITWORTH MANCHESTER' and the wheatsheaf trademark in an oval shape, short rounded end top and side-ribs at breech, carved nipple buttress and platinum plug to snail, plain colour hardened breech-block, plain colour-hardened bar-action lock signed 'J WHITWORTH & CO. MANCHESTER', the tail marked with the Whitworth trademark, sliding safe forwards of the plain hammer, chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock, the wrist fitted with a period but later vernier tang sight (included), iron heel-plate, horn grip-cap with central sling-swivel, plain guarded trigger, fine condition, complete with its maker's blacked canvas storage case compartmented and lined in green baize and containing cap tins and improvised boxes for the sights
