A MOST UNUSUAL POSSIBLY EXPERIMENTAL 54-BORE PERCUSSION DISMOUNTABLE BREECH-LOADING RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1845, with multi-grooved rifled twist iron 30 3/4in. octagonal to sixteen-sided to round barrel, the frontal 22 1/2in. section originally turning off from the remainder, currently frozen out of line, bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight mounted on the original barrel-key (included), the top-flat at breech signed 'JOHN WILLIAM EDGE', spring-loaded scroll engraved breech-block with moulded nipple-boss and internal aperture possibly for a disposable cartridge, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved back-action lock signed 'J.W. EDGE', scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammer, chequered walnut half-stock with oval escutcheon to the wrist, iron heel-plate, scroll engraved trigger-guard and tang, horn fore-end tip and no provision for ramrod
