A .451 PERCUSSION SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL 'PATTERN 1863 WHITWORTH THREE-BAND', no visible serial number,
dated for 1863, with round blued 33in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight graduated to 400yds. on the ramp and with the slider engraved 'H.C.', top of breech marked 'WHITWORTH PATENT', plain lock signed 'ENFIELD' with date and a crown over 'V.R.' device at tail, walnut full-stock drilled and plugged at wrist for a later tang-sight (absent), the right side of butt stamped 'ROB'T HUGHES UNIVERSAL FIREARM WORKS BIRM.M.', iron furniture including three barrel-bands and nose-cap, no provision for bayonet, brass tipped jag-ended iron ramrod.
