A 22-BORE FLINTLOCK TURN-OFF BOXLOCK SASH-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1786, with round 5in. triple-banded cannon barrel, round breech with London proofs, border and scroll engraved slab-sided action signed within an engraved banner 'W. ASTON' on the left and 'MANCHESTER' on the right, border engraved central hammer and frizzen, walnut bag-shaped butt inlaid with silver wire scrolls and fitted with a silver grotesque mask butt-cap (Birmingham undated hall-marks, maker stamp 'I.B.' for John Bettridge), sliding trigger-guard bow safety, the whole cleaned with some loss to detail
