A RARE COGSWELL & HARRISON PATENT BOXLOCK NON-EJECTOR TRY-GUN, serial no. 43841,

27in. Arcus-steel nitro barrels (shortened), sunken rib engraved 'COGSWELL & HARRISON LTD. 141. NEW BOND STREET. 226 STRAND. LONDON. & 26 AVENUE DE L'OPERA. PARIS.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. choke in both, push-forward underlever, fully articulated stock with integral wheel and external key operating adjustments, weight 6lb. 10oz. Provenance: The Cogswell & Harrison Try-gun appears in the company's 1900 catalogue in their adverts for the Blagdon fitting range at Maldon and Colnbrook. The catalogue states that "Visitors to our fitting ranges can always ensure the services of Fitters who are specialists of the first order and permanently attached to the fitting ranges" and that their own try gun allowed for "any length, inclination of the heel plate, bend and cast-off to be obtained"

Literature: Holts Auctioneers March 2011, Lot 1732

Other Notes: We were kindly informed by the previous vendor that this try-gun was formerly the property of the well-known and influential shot, Jack Kidwell. He used it for both private lessons and those he undertook at the West London Shooting School. The try-gun was presented to the previous vendor by Jack Kidwell's son shortly after his Father's death.
