A .577-450 (M/H) BREECH-LOADING SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL 'MADE SPECIALLY FOR Z.A.R.', serial no. J344,
dated for 1898, with 33 1/4in. barrel marked 'HENRY RIFLING' and signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO' (ring-bulged forwards of chamber), dated within the triangular trademark at breech, slab-sided receiver, cocking indicator alongside the feed-ramp, the action sides marked with maker on the left and 'MADE SPECIALLY FOR Z.A.R.' on the right, walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate, short under-lever, three-quarter fore-end with two iron barrel-bands and nose-cap, under-barrel clearing rod and fitted with a period leather sling, much probable original finish below a laquer preservative
