Portuguese circa 1730, with swamped octagonal 10 1/4in. rifled barrel, applied brass fore-sight, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sight, solid squared top-tang, curved flat bevel-edged lock signed on the bevel around the frizzen-spring 'A. ROSSE PENISCH' (sic), chiselled floral engraving to sides and hammer, lozenge-shaped pan, flat-topped un-bridled frizzen, broad frizzen-spring with carved feather foot, carved walnut full-stock with moulding along the fore-end (old repairs to both sides) and around the top-tang, carved borders around the lock, side-plate, cheek-piece and underside of stock, patch-box with moulded sliding wood cover, engraved brass heel-plate, engraved brass trigger-guard with raised tang (cracked and repaired), twin set triggers with 'hogs-bristle' release, pierced and engraved finial, pierced and engraved sideplate inhabited by cherubs, turned and moulded ramrod pipes and replacement ramrod
